Oyster Shell Recycling
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, The Nature Conservancy and Fisher Recycling have partnered together to offer Charleston-area restaurants the opportunity to be a part of a pilot oyster shell recycling project. Beginning in October, for a nominal fee restaurants can join our program, start recycling oyster shells and make a positive impact on South Carolina's marine habitat.WHY?
- Oyster shells are essential for marine habitat restoration.
- Charleston-area restaurants could provide more than half the shell needed for replanting.
- Simple & makes a difference in the future of our environment.
HOW?
- Collect shells in provided bins between October 2009 through May 2010.
- Sign up for service and schedule pick-up with Fisher Recycling.
- Ensure only shells are placed in bins - NOT TRASH.
- Educate wait staff.
COST?
- Cost is $20/pick up.
